Murray has an in-depth passion for understanding performance. As a People Manager, Murray has been responsible for recruitment, training, resourcing and sales management and in those leadership roles became intrigued as to the diversity of performance between individual direct reports. Some of the team would exceed budget month after month, several would struggle and others would just get over the line. One of the non performers told Murray that it was ‘like living a life with the handbrake on and not knowing what the handbrake was’.
Murray’s fun, challenging and inspiring coaching style is focused on helping sales people, managers and employers to ‘turn the handbrake off’.
Like many people aspiring to leadership in business, Murray’s first introduction to formal training was with the New Zealand Institute of Management. After completing the seven-day residential Executive Staff Course, Murray was invited back as a member of the facilitation team and participated in a number of stagings of this programme.
Murray was accepted into the University of Canterbury MBA Programme and graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, specialising in Services Marketing. After graduating Murray moved to the North Island and eventually settled in Auckland where he held a number of sales management roles with an emphasis on new business acquisition. Before relocating back to Christchurch in 2000, Murray’s last role in Auckland was as National Sales Manager for a multi- national recruitment company, managing a sales budget in excess of $40m.
Murray is also a Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist and is a Full Member of the International Hypnotherapy Practitioners Society Inc (IHPS).
